You know, it is my understanding that at certain times in history, that people were called “heretics” by the Church - State union and burned at the stake. Many times the one crime that made them guilty was the denial of Religious Creeds. It was once said of John Calvin that he graciously pleaded with the State Authorities in Geneva to cut off the head of one of these criminals, rather than to burn him at the stake, well, he was burned at the stake anyway for denial of infant baptism and the holy trinity, I believe he was an Anabaptist. Many years ago in my teens, my parents got me involved in a “Jesus only” Pentecostal Church where I was eventually kicked out for claiming that Baptists could be saved without speaking in tongues. Since this time in my life I have held to a triune view of God, but only in the simplest form of believing the scriptures with a childlike faith; never have I ever been a person who gave any authority at all to so called “Church Creeds”, I have actually read few of them; I am a Bible alone, KJV reader (not KJV only) , trusting in the Lord Jesus to lead me into all truth as the scriptures promise. I believe in three persons, one God and I simply refer to the scripture:
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. (1Ti 3:16 av)
I don’t believe that God requires anyone to understand this mystery to be saved, but just trust in the Lord and read the Word of God with fear and trembling. Even the “historical Christianity” scholars will admit that burning heretics at the stake is a black eye on Christianity, I believe that it was a blasphemy on the name of Jesus and should be condemned by any serious believer in the Lord Jesus, regardless of doctrine or creed! Yet the so called “apologists” of Christianity still today attempt to look the other way at their father’s involvement in these wicked crimes, they make statements like “that’s just what they did back then” I heard RC Sprouls, myself say “they did this because they really believed in hell back then!” and then he admits that it was a black eye on proclaiming Christianity! I am here to tell you Brothers and Sisters, that no murderer has any part in the Kingdom of God and that no man who hates his brother does either! The Apostle John compares one who hates his brother with Cain who killed his brother; to hate is the same crime as murder in God’s eyes and no murderer has eternal life living in him!
I received an e-mail recently from a brother by the name of Tom Lamb, he has a web site called Beyond Protestantism. In this letter, Tom discusses the trinity, as taught by “Religious Creeds”, with a man that believes the “Religious Creeds” of “historical Christianity” must be received by one, in order to inherit eternal life. Now I can tell you without question, I am totally against this idea that “Religious Creeds” have any bearing at all on one’s salvation, in the positive sense, in the negative sense, yes, because you cannot be saved by putting your confidence in the “Creeds” of men to save you. Now I would ask you that you patiently read Tom’s reply back and forth with this “Creedalist” and you tell me; should Tom be kicked out of fellowship as a brother or hated or burn at the stake for demanding the we worship one God alone and not three? Do you not know that your most sacred doctrine of the Trinity is practiced by many as the worship and praise of three rather than one? I myself have read books by Trinitarian scholars, well respected, who do clearly claim that we must pray to and worship each member of the Trinity separately!
Well I guess I will have to let you decide yourselves who is Biblical and who is not in this conversation, as for me I always will pray to and worship one God alone and if the Trinity teaches otherwise, I guess your going to have to burn me at the stake as well, cause I don’t buy it! Be careful not to put your trust in men, it is only God that can save you!
